Dental Crowns

Most dentistry looks like dentistry. Our goal is to provide dentistry that is natural and undetectable. There are several reasons why a dental crown may be indicated to in your dental treatment.

Where damage to a person’s teeth is extreme, and apparently beyond repair, we can use porcelain or zirconia oxide crowns to make the smile appear “as new”. This is an extremely reliable technique for repairing the most severe of dental problems, even permanently replacing missing teeth to offer a complete smile and a functional bite. We are renowned for the quality of our work and the fantastic changes we make for people using this technology. These treatments are used for a long-lasting correction of major dental problems.

When would you need a crown?

  • Trauma - teeth may be damaged or lost

  • Teeth have broken down from excessive wear

  • Large fracture of tooth that could not be fixed with a filling

  • Old fillings leaking and have decay

  • Root canal treated tooth with minimal tooth structure.

  • A bridge can be used to replace a missing tooth.

  • Hairline cracks on teeth that are causing pain when chewing.

How long does it take to fit a dental crown?

Fitting a crown requires at least two visits to our office. Initially, we will remove decay, shape the tooth, and record a mold to send to the laboratory. You will leave the first visit with a temporary crown while the dental lab is creating your custom-fit crown.

On the next visit, we will remove the temporary crown and then fit and adjust the final crown. Finally, we will cement the crown into place and you have a new, beautiful looking tooth.

Dental Bridge

All of your teeth play an important role in speaking, chewing and in maintaining proper alignment of other teeth. Tooth loss doesn’t necessarily have to occur as you age, but if you do lose teeth they must be replaced to maintain proper function of your mouth. Fortunately, there are options for correcting tooth loss.

If you’re missing one or more teeth, you may be aware of their importance to your appearance and dental health. Your teeth work together for many daily functions from eating to speaking. With missing teeth, it’s difficult to do these things. Missing teeth can and should be replaced. Fixed bridges are a great way to restore your dental health and appearance.

A dental bridge uses both of the teeth on either side of the missing space as “abutments” which fills the gap and presents the illusion of natural teeth. The bridge is permanently bonded to the neighboring teeth. Please note: dental implants may also be a great option for replacing missing teeth which do not impinge on healthy neighboring teeth. Our office will thoroughly discuss all treatments options that will best suit your needs.

What is the procedure for a dental bridge?

The procedure usually takes two or three appointments to complete. At the first appointment Dr. Lin will prepare the teeth on either side of the gap by removing a portion of the enamel and dentin.

Since the bridge must be fabricated very precisely to ensure correct bite and to match the opposing tooth, impressions of the teeth are taken and sent to a lab where it will be custom-made. You will leave this first visit with a “temporary bridge”.

At the second appointment, there are a list of requirements that the bridge must meet before cementation. Dr. Lin will check the fit, color, esthetics, and function of the bridge before cementing it in permanently.

How do I take care of my bridge?

A strict regimen of brushing and flossing will keep the bridge and surrounding teeth clean. This is extremely important, as the bridge relies on healthy neighboring teeth for support.
